Why Are Cable Harnesses Important For Modern Cars?

Cable-Harnesses-Important-For-Modern-Cars

Cables are seen everywhere, in every machinery, in every device. And, with the increasing number of cars seen on the roads, the production is highly increasing, which has boosted the production of the cable industries. But, with hundreds of cables being used within a car, it is difficult to manage and repair them. This is why car production companies are using cable harnesses in place of cables within the vehicles. This keeps the space where electrical cables are used neat, clean, spacious, and protective too. Thus, cable harnesses are one of the most important elements within every modern car, making cable harness manufacturers in India a top priority in the car manufacturing industry. A single cable harness consists of thousands of cables, so you can imagine the complexity of the entire system!

The cable harness network within a car is connected to hundreds of ECUs, which are nodes that control the electronics within the vehicle. These could be as less as two ECUs or as many as hundreds of ECUs in a single car! A car has multiple electronic units like power steering, air conditioning, lighting, electric windows, etc. All of these units are controlled by chips that use cable harnesses to transfer electric signals between them. However, with the demands of customers increasing, and in order to beat the competition, car manufacturing companies are coming up with more and more advanced features. Features like Bluetooth, GPRS, parking sensors, and more are being installed in latest car models. Thus, the cable harnesses within a car have to meet these increasingly high demands and have to function in a smarter way to perform exceptionally, while reducing fuel consumption.

Every cable harness within a car consists of different data networks like CAN, LIN, and FlexRay. The reason for this multiple network interconnection is that different networks have different performances, along with different prices. So, by connecting multiple networks, the benefit of each individual network can be blended well to form one strong connection. For example, a LIN network can control simple applications and is very cheap. Thus, it is very suitable in cars where central locking and electrical windows work. But, for cars that require sensors and Bluetooth, complex networks with a high bandwidth like FlexRay are required. Moreover, the LIN and CAN networks are older than FlexRay, which is why they are unsuitable when immediate signals are required like in the usage of brakes. Thus, FlexRay can help here to execute immediate actions and provide safety to the driver. Moreover, FlexRay requires fewer cables, meaning lighter in weight, and usage of lesser fuel.

These are the very basic networks that are being used today. But, with advances in technolgoy, more and more advancements are being made in this sector too. For example, Ethernet with a bandwidth of up to 100 Mbps helps the installation of more cameras in car like reverse camera, rear view camera, bird-view camera applications, etc., along with safety systems like ESP and ABS. So, while we already have a lot on our plate, there is much more to come. All we can do is wait, watch, and then take up the benefits of each technology.

Miracle Electronics is one of the leading cable harness manufacturers in India, who provides not only cable harnesses for the automobile industry, but it also provides various types of quality harnesses for the aerospace and military industries too.
