Low Or High Voltage Transformers – Which Are More Beneficial?

Low-Or-High-Voltage-Transformers-Which-Are-More-Beneficial

With a wide range of transformers available in the market today; each with its own purpose and applications; the two most commonly used transformers are low voltage and high voltage transformers. Both these transformers are useful in their own ways and in their own different applications, serving different purposes, which is why we cannot say that one is better than the other. However, we will learn in this blog how both these transformers are useful and beneficial in their individual applications. But remember, whatever your application and choice, you can get both kinds of best-in-class low and high voltage transformers at Miracle Electronics, the leading transformer manufacturer in India, who has been successfully providing a wide range of transformers to clients in various industries for more than the past two decades.

Low voltage transformers

Low voltage transformers are those that can keep electrical environments safe in both residential and commercial applications by stepping down the voltage to a safer value. Their main application is within households where they take the high voltage electricity of 120 volts running through the walls of the home, and step it down to 12 or 24 volts so that the electricity can safely run through the fixtures, thus reducing the chances of an electric shock and providing protection against short circuits. These 12 to 24 volts of electricity does not generate heat, which is why these transformers are harmlessly used in residential structures. The wide range of home appliances that use these transformers include door bells, thermostats, under-counter lightings, and low voltage external path lightings. These low voltage transformers are also called magnetic low voltage transformers as they use magnetic coupling that moves energy from one circuit to another.

High voltage transformers

High voltage transformers are used to supply energy to powerful equipment, which is why they are typically used in industrial areas for high tech machineries that use electrical energy in the range of 600 to 5000 volts! These transformers are used to step up power over long distances. They are also used in high voltage laboratories for testing purposes. During their normal operation, when the insulation under test breaks down, these transformers are subjected to transitory voltages and surges, which is why the insulation of these transformers is carefully designed to withstand these impulse voltages. The main applications that use high voltage transformers include power supplies, industrial measurement devices, power distribution, telephone networks, amplifiers, medical equipment, and CRT displays. Laminated high voltage transformers are used in lighting, electric gates, and air conditioning controls.

We can see how both low voltage and high voltage transformers are useful in their own different ways. Low voltage transformers are highly useful in residential and household applications, while high voltage transformers are most likely to be seen being used in industrial applications. Because both these equipment are important for our daily lives, we can say that low and high voltage transformers together provide uninterrupted power to our homes and offices. Therefore, none of the two can be said to be superlative over the other.
