Choosing The Right Materials For A PCB

Choosing-The-Right-Materials-For-A-PCB

PCBs have become an integral part of daily life with their usage in day-to-day electronic equipment, from small battery-powered devices to bigger electronic appliances. With such huge appliances being dependant on these small PCBs, it is important that every PCB is manufactured and selected with the right concerns. The materials that need to be used in building a PCB assembly from India should be chosen with utmost care so as to build a genuine PCB assembly that does not pose issues later. In order to make such a genuine PCB assembly, there are certain things you need to focus upon.

The substrate

A PCB assembly generally consists of multiple layers combines together to form a single board. These include the substrate, solder ink, and copper. The bottommost layer – substrate – is made of resin or glass epoxy, which provide a solid base to the PCBs. These materials are fire retardant and can handle a good amount of heat, because PCBs are used in electronic devices which heat up very quickly. You need to use only such genuine materials, and avoid all sorts of cheaper alternatives. Cheaper materials emit a certain smell when heated or soldered, and do not last as long as the genuine materials, as they do not possess the correct amount of thermal sensitivity that an electronic device may demand.

Copper

Now, coming to copper, which is spread and laminated on the surface of the substrate with heat and adhesives to form a thin layer, laminated on only one side, making the PCB assembly a little cheaper for inexpensive devices. But, no matter how cheap, the copper used should be genuine so as to be heat resistant and non-flammable, with a low dielectric constant.

The solder ink

Solder ink is used to leak-proof the liquid solder. Molten solder helps to place the components on the PCBs into the right place on the board. When the liquid solder dries out, the copper plate becomes soldered, protecting the plate against oxidation, and preventing the solder bridges to form between solder pads. The most commonly used solder ink colours on a PCB are brown and green. However, you can choose whatever colours you want if you are having your PCBs customized. Miracle Electronics is a place where you can have your PCB assembly from India customized as per your requirements. Also, you can be sure that here all the general rules for designing and manufacturing a PCB are followed.

The board thickness

The greater the thickness of the PCB board, more the support will be provided to the connected devices, with lower risk of failures. However, if not more, then the standard thickness of the PCB board should at least be 1.6 mm. the copper layer should also have a standard level of thickness. The copper layer must be thick enough to support heavy appliances.

With all of this knowledge, you are now better equipped with the knowledge to purchase the right PCB assembly from Germany for your application. So, use this knowledge and get the best and most genuine PCB to suit your requirements.
