Step Down Transformers For Low Voltage Transmission

Step-Down-Transformers-For-Low-Voltage-Transmission

The electronics that we use everyday like fans, lights, air conditioners, geysers, microwave ovens, washing machines, and refrigerators, are all dependent on transformers for perfect functioning. That’s because the power supplied to simple household appliances and sophisticated industrial equipment may be too high or too low. There’s a lot of technology that goes in using low power and high power transmission between circuits; and this is where transformers do the job. The invention of transformers can be considered revolutionary as it changed the way power is transmitted and voltage is regulated. While there are a number of transformer types available, the two main types that are mainly used are step up and step down transformers. Step up transformers are used to increase the voltage of power, while step down transformers are used to reduce the electrical voltage. Let’s take a look at how step down transformers work, and how and where they are used.

How do step down transformers work?

Transformers work on the principle of “Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction” which states that when the magnetic flux linking a circuit changes, the electromagnetic force induced in the circuit is proportional to the rate of change in the flux linkage. The transmission in the transformer is performed by mutual induction between the windings. The number of turns in the primary and secondary winding respectively determines the electromotive force induced between the two winding, the ration being known as turns ratio. It is this turns ratio that decides the voltage reduction capability of a step down transformer. The amount of flux linkage to the secondary coil of the transformer remains less, compare to the primary coil, as the number of windings in the secondary coil is also lesser than the number of windings in the primary coil. The electromotive force induced in the secondary coil is thus comparatively lesser, which ultimately reduces the voltage at the secondary winding compared to the primary winding.

Types and benefits of step down transformers

There are three main types of step down transformers – single phase, center tapped, and multi tapped. Using such step down transformers makes power transmission power both easy and cheap, while also providing almost 100% efficiency, high reliability, and durability.

Where can step down transformers be used?

There are multiple applications where step down transformers can be used, but the main applications include main adapters and chargers for cell phones and stereos, transmission lines, welding machines, inverters, televisions, and voltage stabilizers.

Where can you get your step down transformers?

You must get your step down transformers from a reliable manufacturer who you can trust for quality, durability, and reliability. One such manufacturer is Miracle Electronics, where you can get high quality transformers of all types. With an experience of more than a decade, Miracle Electronics is one transformer manufacturer in India that is trusted to offer only genuine products, whether you buy from readily available transformers or have them especially customized as per your requirements and application.
