How Does A Toroidal Transformer Work?

How-Does-A-Toroidal-Transformer-Work

Like any other transformer, a toroidal transformer is designed to change AC current without the need for any type of action being executed on the part of the device. Thus, these are passive electrical components that don’t actually do anything to create the change. Instead, when the current passes through the windings that wrap around the core of the transformer, a magnetic field is generated, which then collapses to provide a specific and consistent voltage output. The core of a toroidal transformer is circular ring or doughnut shaped, made of ferromagnetic material like iron powder, laminated iron, or ferrite, around which wire is wound. Toroidal transformers are compactly shaped such that greater efficiency comes with lesser electromagnetic interference. Therefore, a toroidal transformer is considered to be 50% more efficient than a standard linear type of core.

As a user, you must also be aware of the functioning of a transformer, and the options that are right for your particular applications. To help you know about the functioning of a transformer, this blog is here to help; and to help you choose the right option, you have Miracle Electronics to lend a helping hand. Here, you can get assistance on what your application requires, along with the services of having a customized toroidal transformer in India manufactured especially for you.

How does a toroidal transformer work?

Within a toroidal transformer, the incoming AC current constantly changes its directions, creating a sine wave pattern that goes to the peak and also falls to zero in both directions. These are known as cycles, with the AC current executing 60 cycles per second, which is measured as 60 Hertz (Hz). The current creates a positive magnetic field in the primary coil, which peaks and collapses, after which a negative magnetic field builds up and then collapses. At each collapse, the voltage goes down to zero. The magnetic fields that build and collapse in the primary coil, then pass through the secondary coil wrapped around the ferromagnetic core of the transformer. This voltage is used to power the device on the other side of the toroidal transformer. The voltage within the secondary coil is constant and can be determined by the number of coils in the secondary winding, as compared to the number of coils in the primary. This allows for different voltage options within the transformer.

Where are toroidal transformers used?

Toroidal transformers, because of the various varieties of advantages that they have to offer, are used in a wide range of electronic circuits like inverters, power supplies, and amplifiers. These are in turn used in a vast majority of electrical equipment like televisions, computers, audio systems, and radios. Another major reason for these transformers to be an ideal and popular choice for so many applications is its quality of being able to be mounted in any direction on a board or in a device. Whenever you are on the lookout for this versatile device, you can approach Miracle Electronics, and rest assured that you will get the best quality toroidal transformer in India.
